Dueling vs great weapon fighting.

It's certainly not bad, but I'd rather have the Two-Weapon Fighting fighting style so that my Strength modifier is added to the damage roll of my bonus-action attack from Two-Weapon Fighting. Alternatively, could I say I'm normally wielding one shortsword and so use Dueling, and then draw & attack with the second for my bonus action?

Dueling vs great weapon fighting. Things To Know About Dueling vs great weapon fighting.

The Vengeance Paladin should make a great two-weapon fighter; add Charisma modifier to all weapon damage for 2 turns (bonus action, Oath charge). +3 radiant damage for both weapons, 2 turns. Hard to beat that for a 1-level dip; or as you said, several levels for fighting style (lvl 2), vow of enmity (lvl 3), smites, hunter's mark, and extra attack. Specific Mechanic. TLDR; just to break even (kind of) with the damage of someone with Great Weapon Mastery (GWM), a Two Weapon fighting (TWF) style character must deal an average of 7.5 with each attack when both characters get one main attack 12.5 when you both characters get two main hand attacks 16 with three 18.75 with four main hand ...I agree that you can interpret the rules on two weapon fighting this way, but I think my interpretation might also be valid. Certainly you need to be holding a light melee weapon in one hand when you take the Attack action, but I think you does not necessarily imply that you need to have your off hand weapon in hand at the same time. Two weapon fighting (without feats) adds an average of 3.5 (+ str/dex mod) points of damage, vs 2 for dueling (assuming all attacks hit for simplicity). So, you sacrifice 1.5 (+ str/dex mod) points of damage but get to use a shield and get to use your bonus action for other things (and you really want your bonus action open if you choose ...

Ricardanilevs. •. GWF Style: When you make an attack with your two hands wielding a weapon you may reroll damage die (I always read this as one die per Attack if it was "1" or "2" and save the last roll even if it's "1" or "2". So I think: 2d6. "1"+"2" → you chose one that you wanna to reroll (choose "1").The great weapon fighting style in DND is pretty weak in comparison with dueling, archery, two weapon fighting, and others. Dueling has a flat +2 increase to damage, and you can carry a shield while doing it. Great weapon fighting only increases expected damage by 1.2, using a great axe.

Heavy, two-handed weapons are some of D&D 5e's most damaging weapons. On top of their high damage dice, they allow access to some of D&D 5e's best fighter feats, such as Great Weapon Master.Their corresponding 5e Fighting Style, however, is unfortunately underwhelming.. Great Weapon Fighting allows a character …

This fighting style is notorious for being really bad in 5E, but in Baldur's Gate III it's quite different...The long sword, battle ax, and war hammer are staples of fantasy fighting, but they don't seem very effective in BG3; at least to me. Many of the major fighting styles and melee feats specifically exclude them, which seems to make using either a straight one-handed (usually finesse) or two-handed weapon a more effective build option. For …Dueling PHB: Note that this works while using a shield. 2 damage closes the damage gap between a longsword and a two-handed weapon like a greataxe or greatsword (4.5->6.5 vs. 6.5/7), so you can have the damage of a two-handed weapon with the AC of sword-and-board.It's a super simple concept; two-handed melee weapons get to reroll 1s or 2s once per hit. The game play this leads to, though, is incredibly fun. So many of us come to D&D to roll some dice and get up to nonsense storytelling with our friends; Great Weapon Fighting makes the dice rolling and big numbers all the more fun.Dueling: + 3 attack (flat +15% chance to hit) + 3 AC (flat -15% chance to get hit) Two-Weapon Fighting: + 1 extra attack per turn at -2 attack In Kotor characters do not get any extra attacks, they are stuck at 1 per turn. (unlike D&D where characters get + 1 attack every 5 BAB/attack). This makes the extra attack from TWF very important since it basically doubles the number of attacks per round.

GWF is the Fighter/Ranger Fighting Style that lets you reroll 1s and 2s on damage from weapons wielded in 2 hands. OP is correct, GWF should reroll that 1. However, I don't know if it did reroll the 1, and it just happened to roll a 1 again (which is then kept as GWF only rerolls the dice once)

Instead of doing the above, I would rather do Dueling Fighting Style instead of Great Weapon Master Fighting Style since Dueling Fighting Style gives an auto +2 instead of rolling for it as a versatile weapon die with Great Weapon Master Fighting Style. This puts the fighting style more on-par with the other melee fighting styles such as Dueling (+2 damage) and Two-Weapon Fighting (potential for +5 damage.) It would be more swingy (theoretical maximum gain of +11 damage if you turn a 1 into a 12) but that swing potential is no worse than how GWFS is currently. One is that dueling is way better than great weapon fighting, so for tier 1/no feats games there's a huge gap. GWM then starts to significantly overshadow dueling because 1h weapons don't keep up in expected value when GWM can add 10 damage as a flat bonus. The second is that having to choose your fighting style forever is limiting. Great Weapon Fighting (PHB, pg. 72/84) states: When you roll a 1 or 2 on a damage die for an attack you make with a melee weapon that you are wielding with two hands, you can reroll the die and must use the new roll, even if the new roll is a 1 or a 2. The weapon must have the Two-Handed or Versatile property for you to gain this benefit.Great Weapon Fighting is a fighting style option that allows you to reroll 1s and 2s on damage dice when wielding a melee weapon with two hands. The downside is you must take the new roll, even if it’s another 1 or 2. Il 5e, dual wielding Is sub-optimal, if you want it for flavour, go for it, otherwise a shield In the offhand is better. Tho, if you get flat damage per attack, dual wielding is good at levels 1-4, after extra attack kinda makes it less useful. still dual wielding is worse than duelling. Agree totally.
